Ronald McDonald House Chicago Donor Wall: Significance of 3

In General:
There are 3 primary colors with which it is possible to obtain all the colors;
There are 3 keys of music Do, Fa, and Sol are the three most important notes in music
The three divine principles: light, heat, and life;
Three types of universe: matter, astral (mental or soul) and spirit;
Three phases of the moon;
The earth, sea, and sky of nature.

 80 unique doors will be showcased on two gallery walls in the main public area of the Ronald McDonald House being built in the heart of downtown Chicago near Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. The doors are meant to symbolize the philosophy that ” The doors of Ronald McDonald House are always open for you.”  To learn more click on the following links:

Materials used: 

  • Earthenware ceramic with low fire glaze
  • Custom made pewter number three

I started out with the doorknob as the inspiration for the creation of the door design.

I searched for a creative quote and wrote it using clay slip in a narrow tip squeeze bottle.

Glaze color for door was chosen in balance with other door color combinations.

An original custom number three was designed and casted in pewter.
