Ronald McDonald House Chicago Donor Wall: Carpenter Door

 

If you put a wood door near 1700 degree fire it would be ash in a nano second.  Make an earthenware ceramic door that looks like wood and heat er’ up to 1700 degrees and you have a clay sculpture art piece. 

80 unique doors will be showcased on two gallery walls in the main public area of the Ronald McDonald House being built in the heart of downtown Chicago near Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. The doors are meant to symbolize the philosophy that ” The doors of Ronald McDonald House are always open for you.”  To learn more click on the following links:

 

Materials used: 

Process:

  • Hand rolled and sculpted earthenware clay. Color is a combination of low fire glaze and brushed on alkyd oil paint.
